What is a Septic Tank?
Septic Tanks are commonly used throughout Queensland, in semi-rural, rural and remote locations, to provide an onsite sewage disposal system. Effluent and wastewater flows from the kitchen, laundry, bathroom and toilets into the septic tank, where liquids, fats, oils and solids are separated. Bacteria in the septic tank then breaks down the effluent, and leaves behind a liquid which flows on to an evapo-transpiration field. The liquid is evaporated by wind and sun or utilised through plants.
